You can't take the boy out of the man!
Hockey Player is 13. He is growing up. Just a inch or two shy of being almost or taller than dad. Looks us in the eyes these days. If I am barefoot and he is not, I am quickly reminded how short I am becoming. He has tryouts coming up in a month or so. His stick broke at the end of the season.
He doesn't nag. Daddy O reminds me often. So finally I sat down with Hockey Player.
We looked online. He took me to Hockey Monkey and showed me the sticks he wanted. I took a chance and went to Ebates and discovered Hockey Monkey was affiliated with them. Joy of all joys!! Not only did we discover his preferred sticks clearance, we scored 3% back on Ebates!! So excited, I was quick to call and Facebook moms of his teammates.
But that is not what this post is about. I order online, but not a WHOLE bunch. Though it is increasing in this season of life. A huge package showed up at the door. I kept hollering for Hockey Player to come. He is entering this season of life where he can be slow to respond to mom. He is starting to think for himself. He tries to interpret my calls to determine if he wants to/should actually come. It is really annoying. So this particular day, he wouldn't come. Not with all the cheering and cajoling of his sibs. They even told him what they had...now guaranteed he might now have heard all the way in the depths of the basement. But guaranteed he heard some sort of rumble and knew something was up. Soooo, I yelled down to him, if he didn't get upstairs I was gonna stop the truck as it turned around and drove back by and send the package back with.
He showed up! And he did this when I suggested returning his box.....
He doesn't look all that happy, but that is Hockey Player. He was posing.
Then Fun Girl got in there with him and they started measuring where they might need to cut the stick. (Aunt Shell, please note: He is taller than Fun Girl!)
Trying to get a picture and this is what I got. They were being silly. However, this is a classic look. For whatever reason, I seem to capture this expression a lot on film. It is definitely not the one I am trying to capture!
This is what I wanted to see!
Success!!!!!

Favorite Things....Recycle Bank
Recyclebank is..........
Awesome, great, best thing since sliced bread....well maybe I wouldn't go that far.
But pretty terrific. And definitely one of my favorite tools these days.
I wouldn't say I am a tree hugger.
I don't get all crazy if I see recyclables in the dumpster, BUT I do like to do my part.
When God put Adam and Eve in the garden they were instructed to care for it.
I just see recycling as my part of being a good steward of God's Creation.
So, after we were married and had child #1 aka Fun Girl, maybe after child #2 aka Hockey Player I started wanting to recycle more. We did the aluminum cans. (Hello--Money there!! and the kids were all over the change and so was I). I started saving newspapers and dropping them off at the local grocery store.
Hubby wasn't a big fan of having "trash" around.
I bought trash cans to sort.
Not really buying it.
Child #3 aka Little Princess entered the world.
SHE. DID. NOT. LIKE. sleeping in her bed.
Forget about napping there.
She liked the sling.
She liked touching me.
She liked being near me.
She was a Momma's girl!
Ahhhh, how sweet. How wonderful....
Yeah, but every once in a while it is nice to NOT BE TOUCHED!
The only other place she was willing to nap was in the car seat in a moving vehicle!
So I started brain storming. I was all past the first - second child we gonna do this by the book to get her to sleep in her bed. It was survival. It was what ever will work for the now planning time.
So I created a schedule.
A schedule of activities that needed/could be needed to be done every week.
Each activity was assigned a day.
Do you see where I am going with this??
We went for a daily drive every day during nap time. Oh yeah!!
Once a week we went to the library that had a drive through and on the way was the local recycling facility. Oh yeah!!
How could Hubby complain about recycling that was dumped every week? ! ?
Hockey Player and Fun Girl would help to dump the containers, that is if they hadn't fallen asleep.
If they were still awake, then we might stop at the park before going home. It was amazing during that time period, how many errands I could come up with that required me to be out every day. Of course, that was before the gas prices went up. We won't discuss how un-ecological I was to be out driving every day of the week. Because the choice was to save gas or sanity.
Sanity won out!
Then Little Princess grew a bit more and the daily napping trips were no more.
By then I was recycling and Hubby was not impressed.
Somewhere in there I had to give up my weekly trip to the library with a drive thru. That is such an amazing perk for a library to have if you have nappers in the car. With this trip gone, I had no where to drop off my recycling. I couldn't justify the gas anymore.
Sad sigh!
The recycling stopped.
Couple more kids added... #4 and #5 and I am thinking we are going to have to get a second dumpster. A notice comes in the paper. A new trial service is being offered through our trash company.
RECYCLEBANK !
The best part, they supply the container.
No wait, the really BEST Part:
NO SORTING
Yep you read that right.
NO SORTING!
You just toss all your recycling in the bin.
Amazing.
No bins, no pile up.
How could Hubby refuse?
He humored me.
I signed up.
Initially it was like $4 a month.
Points are earned based on weight.
Points are cashed in for rewards...coupons, gift cards, ecards
That first year, I pulled in rewards worth more than we spent!
Hubby was sold.
Of course, the first year on deals like that are pretty awesome.
But honestly, I still pull out some pretty good rewards each year.
Now, I accumulate gift cards to use for just that gifts.
Hello Christmas shopping without the shopping.
As time has passed, they have, also, opened up their site to those who don't use them for curb side recycling. You can download apps and track your own recycling and earn points. There are educational opportunities, videos and activities that may be completed to earn additional points. This has been helpful when trying to teach my children about the various environmental actions they can take to be more Eco-minded. I want my kids to recycle. But I, also, want them to take note that turning off the water and lights when not in use are important actions as well. They enjoy the games, activities, as do I, and they definitely enjoy the benefits of the rewards it brings home. For Dad's Bud last year, he needed to complete some environmental tasks for his Cub Scouts awards. It was great to sit down with him at the computer and take him through various videos and tutorials about Recycle Bank itself and ways we could care for our planet and environment and all from the comfort of our home. No running the car across town to ask questions.

Favorite things....Swagbucks
Favorite Things Tuesdays.
With the Holidays approaching, I am appreciating my Swagbucks even more.
How do you search the internet? Google? Bing?
Switchover to Swagbucks and start earning..well, Swagbucks.
What do you do with Swagbucks?
You can redeem them for all sorts of prizes.
My favorites:
Gift card codes for Amazon
Gift cards for Starbucks
and cash in my Paypal account.
I stash the gift cards, for gifts of course!
And it is super cool to need to order something on Amazon and have part if not all of it paid for by banking the gift codes for Amazon. Those unexpected expenses all taken care of, Thank you Lord!
And well, I like getting extra cash, (in Paypal) just for doing what I am doing anyhow.
It is easy to do.
You can load the tool bar and search from there.
I occassionally do the polls for an extra swagbuck.
I print coupons from their site and earn points when I redeem the coupons.
There are referral perks as well.
When someone you refer signs up through your link, you earn swagbucks when they earn swagbucks.
Up to 1000 Swagbucks per referral!
Talk about earning those gift cards even faster!
If you are thinking you just might need to give this a try, please consider signing up under my referral link or by clicking Sign up on the widget on the right side of my blog!
Happy Searching and Earning!

Free Household Cleaner anyone?
My sister recently received the opportunity to test out Soft Scrub's All Purpose with Bleach cleaning product. The spray bottle works upside down. She mentioned it is difficult to get it to work upright immediately after using it upside down. That would be a little bothersome if you forget. However, I am forever just needing a bottle to work from strange angles. Getting a chance to give it a try for free excites me....woohoo!!
Just so you know, I get nothing more than a friendly and loving thank you from my sister for helping to spread the word. I don't even get extra "tickets" in the drawing.
Check out this post and opportunity for free bathroom cleaner from Soft Scrub.

Jehovah Jireh My Provider, His Grace is Sufficient for Me
A couple of weeks ago, I took Little Princess for a physical. Perfectly smooth morning it was. We stopped and found an awesome garage sale on our way towards home. Had a couple of chuckles and some fun together. While at the garage sale her nose starts gushing. The lady running the garage sale was sooo gracious. She was quick to grab some kleenex and kept encouraging us to take more. This nose bleed was slowing down none to quickly. Both Little Princess and I were grateful we stopped at the sale because otherwise this would have happened in the car and I was out of kleenexes in the car. AIY! As we would find out, I couldn't even find a restaurant napkin in the suburban. Completely unusual for us. But considering the time of year it is to be expected. Ragweed season and I am always sneezing, sniffling and sometimes the others join in with me.
We take our tissues, and special garage sale finds and continue on our path to home. Our path has another stop at the grocery store.
All was going well, and I told Little Princess to lay down, because we were only going a half mile to the store and we were on the back roads. If she laid down she would be better able to get the bleeding stopped.
We stopped at the light and within seconds, Little Princess is asking if we had been hit. Yep! In spite, of my assurances that all would be okay. We had been rear-ended at the stop light. The other driver, a nurse, is quick to check on us and we cross the street to a parking lot. When she sees Little Princess' bloody tissues she becomes concerned. I reassure her, no worries.
But the bummer is we are running out of tissues and my nose is starting to act out because I standing outside in the Kansas wind. The police come... they discover the blood and ask if we need an ambulance. NOPE! Everyone is okay. Just a nose bleed. Cars are banged and bruised. Insurance companies will have to be called. Everyone is okay. The bleeding has stopped, so has my sniffling.
Good thing there are no more tissues.
Good thing there are no more tissues.
Once released we make our way to the store. Why do I have to go to the store?
Because between school, life and putting stuff on EBay, I have failed to keep up on my deal shopping for household goods. Thankfully, there was once upon a stockpile. Nothing like what you will see on Extreme Couponing. A stockpile nonetheless. However, when life gets hectic, that pile can dwindle.
I actually found myself needing to crisis shop for dishwasher detergent.
When I say crisis I mean, the dishwasher was full and there was overflow in the sink. This would be a run the dishwasher 3 times day.
If I was truly industrious, I would have searched online, found a recipe and made my own. But life is hectic and busy and well the store is only 2 miles away. The five dollars I would spend was so not worth all the time I would spend trying to find a recipe and make it.
I did think to grab my coupons, because
I vaguely recalled there was a buy 10 things get $5 off sale happening.
Good thing, because I was down to my last bottle of laundry detergent. I scored all of the below for my target prices when keeping up with the deals!
6 bottles of laundry detergent
Cereal
Pringles...just to be kind to my crew
Gatorade
and of course dishwasher detergent!
But did I remember tissues? NOPE !
I left the store telling God thank you.
"Thank you for protecting us. Thank you for the deals. Thank you for providing for me and my family. Thank you for a healthy daughter. Thank you for no blood in the car.
(This is because, I told Little Princess I was sorry for stopping at the garage sale. The accident might have been avoided if I had stopped. She quickly pointed out if we hadn't stopped she would have bled all over the car. Such an insightful young lady.)
Thank you for such a friendly driver to have hit us. Thank you for insurance.

Back to School Haircuts
Always on the look out for a deal, I couldn't pass up JCPenny's free hair cuts for back to school.
It involved rescheduling since we were sick during the week of our
original appointments.
Much to our delight, there were appointments still available.
Trip across town and we made an afternoon of it at the mall.
The Man hammed it up for the camera, as you can tell from the numerous pictures
I have of him.

Like Mother Like Daughter!!! I am so Proud of Her
It was one of those days. I had been putting it off all week. The weekend came and I felt crummy.
Hubby gave me a pass and let me rest the weekend away.
I just didn't want to do it.
It was ~
GROCERY Shopping!
With kids in tow!
Mondays the Commissary is closed.
We were scraping the bottom of the barrel.
But the bonus is, we really cleaned out the freezer, cause this wasn't the first time in the last 6 weeks I pushed off the inevitable.
With one kiddo on a church outting, and two at home playing games I made my way to the store.
With not 2 kiddos but 3.
If you know me well, the math does not add up.
But we were babysitting this particular Tuesday.
Talk about putting things off and not getting any better as time passes.
My kids aren't so bad, but it was a BIG trip.
Did I mention we had no food in the house?
You aren't suppose to go to the store hungry.
So I popped some popcorn for in the car.
REALLY!
All sorts of suggestions and requests, cause you know, they had seen so much food in forEVER!
And food is a growing child's LOVE language.
and LOTS of IT!
I am couponing. I am thinking. I don't have a list, but it doesn't
really matter cause the cupboards are bare and I am just
getting the ESSENTIALS!
We discover lemonade for 50 cents, cause someone left a whole bunch of awesome coupons!
YEAH!
A few more aisles along, I head to the meat counter and Fun Girl
starts trying to talk to me.
There are 2 times in my life children are not to talk to me...
when I am paying bills and balancing the checkbook
AND
when I am grocery shopping with coupons and trying to not go over budget.
YEP!
AND my 16 year old Fun Girl is trying to tell me something about BBQ sauce.
Really, cause doesn't she know I don't like the stuff?
Really!
Let me pick out the MEAT already.
Not to mention, our friend for the day is asking me all sorts of questions about the meat.
She thinks she is one of mine and keeps asking me if we can buy stuff.
Obviously, she isn't one of mine or she would know NOT to talk to me.
(Are you laughing yet?)
While I am selecting meat she says..."GROSS!!!!
If that is lunch I am not eating it. "
And I am trying to think about anything but lunch
cause when I am done,
I don't want anything to do with food again for at least 12 hours.
PLUS, this is the area, that always gets me into trouble.
I, always, go over budget in the meat department.
So bad so, hubby is suppose to shop with me and take care of it.
BUT, alas, he is not there and I am trying.
And
they
are
talking
to
me.
Further down, she asks, "WHAT IS THIS?"
Brisket.
"OHHHH BEEF"
sure thing sweetie
"MOM the BBQ deal is really good" ~ Fun Girl.
again with the BBQ sauce.
Deep breathe, okay sweetie tell me about this deal.
You buy this, and this and this and it is like free!
HUH?
So I try to do some mental math, but my head is back in the meat dept.
I left condiments and lemonade a long time ago.
I come up with well, it will cost us about $4 but okay, just give me the coupons and lets
get the stuff in the cart so I can get back to my meat.
$4 is worth it if they stop talking.
She hads me coupons and then she says,
"Don't forget these!"
What are these?
WHOA NELLY!
This deal just got sweeter.
She has learned the fine art of stacking coupons.
It is a 3 part deal.
Coupon for lemonade we found on lemonade shelf.
Plus, coupon for if you buy 2 BBQ bottles and 1 lemonade.
Plus coupon if you buy 2 BBQ.
3 items ~ 3 coupons.
End result
$0.50 overage for each threesome.
It didn't cost me $4.
It provided me with $4 in overage
THAT IS MY GIRL!!!
She was so excited and couldn't wait to tell her daddy.
She did it all on her own.
Good thing my family likes BBQ sauce, cause did I mention, I don't like the stuff!
But I do like the lemonade.

I never knew they made this kind of kids clothing.....
So we went to the Mulberry Bush Consignment Sale today.
This can be such a fun sale. I went on Thursday and found some great deals. Today was 1/2 price day.
The girls went with me.
I really wished I had brought my camera. I forgot that my phone would have worked too.
But in girls' size 3 we found this tag:
size 3
Gap Strip Shorts
To which Fun Girl chokes and pokes me. Asks me, "What are strip shorts?"
HA! HA! I was, also, on the phone chatting with Dara. Cause we used to do this sale together and I was missing her company. Vicariously, shopping with her via phone. :)
"Strip shorts...the kind of shorts that are easy for a 3 year to take off," I tell her.
Badda bing, badda boom.
Several moms in the area are laughing. Dara is laughing. She reminded us those were Brylee's favorite kind of shorts a few years back. They were Little Princess's favorites as well.
Then the bubble burst and we are corrected. They aren't STRIP shorts, the are stripE shorts. Hence, the stripes on the shorts. Bummer, cause I was trying to think of a little girl I knew that would like to have a pair of strip shorts

So I settled in for a re-read of my dear friend, Wendy's email. I knew what she was writing was good, but with all the distractions and interruptions around here I have been unable to soak in the words and really get more than a quick cursory read. So I had exactly 2 minutes without interruptions. Just long enough for me to read it, and exclaim in my heart and mind with a WOW! Good stuff. I truly mean 2 minutes, because since I finished reading it and decided it must be blogged, I have had 3 commercial breaks courtesy of my children. All which must be focused upon and addressed. But this is good stuff. Stuff I have chatted in part with various family members over the last couple of days. Then I went to Amazon. I found the Kindle addition for 1.99. I have the Kindle app on my ITouch. Now, to find the time to read it, like I said early, 2 minutes is sometimes all I get. Frankly, that is rarity in of itself. Cause the only time they seem to not come looking for me is when I am working on chores. Then I have to go find them. Funny how that works.

Happy New Years. I have been reading "Just Walk Across the Room - Simple Steps Pointing People to Faith" by Bill Hybels. This is an easy read. In a recent chapter, it reminds me again the role that I am suppose to play.
"Don't we often think that we are supposed to get a seeker to cross the finish line, seal the deal, and check the salvation box? Isn't the whole goal here to see people, come to faith in Christ? ... I believe many people begin their spiritual quest at a negative ten and that my role is to facilitate their movement to a negative eight....Two points on the spectrum, and a result that is still in negative territory It used to discourage me, but at some point I began to accept the fact that the role I am supposed to play is ... well, the role I'm supposed to play. ... I have a hoe, and I'm suppose to break up some really hard soil in someone's heart so that the next person to come along might have some influence in planning a seed or two along those rows. We can't ordain the role we get to play, and we certainly can't predict the time frame of someone coming to faith. It's easy to get cynical when sowing seed, but if you will just persevere, the potential is colossal."

Awesome Jeans Find for my Hockey Player
Hockey Player is a very disobedient child lately. I (the Mom) keep telling him to stop growing. He won't. Instead he tells me, Big O Daddy O keeps telling him to keep growing. Well, we know who he listens to the most. BODO doesn't know what he is saying. He doesn't do the shopping. Buy the boy pants, and couple of months later he looks like he is ready to wade the crik out back. If only we had a creek.
Well they aren't that short yet. But they are on the verge of being that short. Short enough for Fun Mom to be concerned for everyone's sake. On break from school, so I should spend the time getting the shopping done so it doesn't interfere with more important things like acquiring groceries and shuttling kids to activities and laundry. Did I mention school in there? Nope, cause that isn't considered one of free time hobbies by the family. And I mean by the family, cause in my dreams that isn't how I would spend my free time. But that is not the theme of this post. My super savings and happy dance moment is the theme.
So off I go to Old Navy, hoping and hoping some more that their jeans are $10 still. My gut telling me No Sir-ee Bob, that I missed the sale by a day. Sure enough, I did. Not only did I miss the sale but the shelves were almost empty. I mean big wall of a few random pairs of jeans and lots of empty shelves. I managed to find, get this, 4 pairs of jeans in his size. 4!!! at the good ol' price of 2 for $30. Could be worse. At least they were offering the Old Navy Cash. $10 when you purchase $20. Did I mention I was there the day before with my Groupon coupon? Yep, they waited till I bought fun stuff to let me know they couldn't find jeans in the totes downstairs. So I look around a bit more, find a coat for Little Princess. She lost her coat this year. Fun Mom has been loaning her a coat from her collection of garage sale finds. It works for right now, but once it snows and they want to play it won't afford her much warmth. It is more sweater like than a play in the snow coat. Off to the register.
I do a couple of transactions just to maximize the amount of Old Navy Cash I can get. Not that I want to have spend that much more money at Old Navy, but I figure there is gonna be more growing in my house. Cause Daddy's Buddy has grown almost an inch in the last couple of months. Hockey Player has let it be known he is gonna listen to and obey the Dad and not me. Humpf. But back to the register.
First two pairs of jeans ring up as $15 each. Third pair of jeans..........$0.97 Ummm, that can't be right. I look at the girl behind the cash register and shake my head and say, "That can't be right." She looks at me and kinda shrugs and tells me she'll try the next pair to see what happens. Pair number 4......$0.97
I laugh, cause this just can't be right.
She looks the jeans over. She looks at the tags again and then she explains. They are "Painters" and sold online only. They must have been returned to the store. They aren't carried in the store anymore. Hence $0.97 ! ! !
Nope, I didn't go back and check the shelves for more, cause I had already handled every pair back there and grabbed every pair in the size I needed. Cause, afterall, I could only find 4 pairs in his size.
I floated out of the store feeling a big hug from my Heavenly Father. Thanking God for his provision. 4 pairs of jeans for $32. Which is less than the $10 sale, I missed by a day. 97 cents....better than a garage sale new with tags find! ! !
Want to know just a little bit more about how awesome all this was. I had looked online late the night before and all they had in stock in Hockey Players size was skinny, super skinny and lined (for warmth) jeans. None of which he would have worn. He would rather wear his too short pants than go there. For which, Fun Mom, has much to be thankful for, because, afterall, she is a teenager and style is important. These painter jeans are one of his favorite styles of jeans to wear. They are baggy and loose in the legs. (I think this is kinda funny, cause Hockey Player has gotta be one of the most thinnest kids I know and most things are baggy on him.)
Favorite Jeans, favorite price....what a great shopping experience!

KitchenAid on Cyber Monday and those pesky little words...ON SALE and Rebate too!
oooh my goodness! !! Isn't this pretty! ! !! !!
I just put it in my store.
It is on sale.
ON SALE!!!
oh how my hubbby hates those 4 little words. "It is on saaaaaale!!!!"
He has been making fun today.
Pretty cinnamon color.
I have always talked myself out of a KitchenAid, but I am caving. If only he could find the value in my having one.
He told me I already got my Christmas when I bought a Vitamix last month. It cleans itself! How cool is that. The KitchenAid doesn't do that, but it is pretty and would make cookies, frosting, cakes, bread, and so much more....
I am in love or is it in envy??? Ahhhh, **big sigh**
Did I mention there is a 50 dollar rebate?
And if you don't want the magazine subscription you can request the 24 dollars to be refunded to you. All in the print. Sooo pretty!
So, so pretty.
Oh, by the way it is on Amazon. hee hee, should have told you that.

Free Home School Curriculum!! Anyone ? ?
So, I have been using Swagbucks for quite a while. I have Amazon Gift Codes built up. I have money deposited into my Paypal account. But it wasn't until tonight I realized I could use those Amazon codes to purchase some of my homeschool curriculum. I needed to order something and then to get free shipping, I was pondering what else was on my shopping list. It dawned on me to check on some of the items on my school shopping list. Oh, yeah! Happy Dance! ! ! Handwriting is ordered, on its way and it cost me nothing. That is how I like it! !
So if you haven't signed up with Swagbucks yet, you might want to think about it. And if you decide to, will you sign up through my link. I get bonus swagbucks for making the referral.
Oh, Happy dance ! !
