A new quoteable courtesy of The Man!

I love my "Man".  He really is The Man.  He has a super big heart.  Wants everyone to be happy.

He has a creative, artistic streak that makes me look at the world differently and smile.

So when I was getting ready for church and cruised through the living room, I stopped to ask him what he needed to do to be ready himself.

He launched into an explanation about his outfit.  He is a clothing expert.  He has an opinion on colors, fabrics, textures, and designs.  Honestly, he has really good taste.

So when he proceeded to tell me, "This is the only shirt that goes with these shorts." I was really proud of my ability to stay straight face and proceed into a normal conversation.  I honestly have to credit God with my composure.  His heart is so big, he genuinely was serious, I didn't want to hurt or frustrate him.  But I was truly in awe that he really thought these two items went together!

I explained he need to wear nice jeans or khakis...shorts or pants.  Not athletic shorts.  Pulled a pair out of the laundry not quite folded, but perfect for church.  I didn't snicker, didn't laugh and didn't try to correct him.  I did ask him if I could take his picture.

Later, I would learn from Hockey Player, he only pulled his jeans on over his perfect shorts.  I definitely need to pull out the totes to help him find the perfect shirt for his perfect shorts.

Seeing with New Eyes

Little Princess took the plunge.  Contacts for her !  She is growing up.  With my oldest girl, I have dragged my feet along the way.  Not wanting to rush things.  Plus I knew as she grew up the youngers would grow up a tad faster with all the newness being introduced along the way.  It has, also, been exciting to experience the firsts with my oldest.  I have worried back in my mind, that when it was my Little Princess' turn to do these firsts for her, my enthusiasm would be less.  It is different. It is still fun!  My experience with Fun Girl, has left me more experienced and yet excited in a new way... "I have a secret" excited!  I know what is coming, I am excited for her and can't wait to see her experience it.  Just as she is seeing the world with "new eyes", so am I.  I am so happy to be Mom to this beautiful young lady!

Fun Girl ~ Puzzle Master

On one of our weekly adventures, Fun Girl decides to take on the challenge.
Now the picture below is the finished product.
But the instructions are just above the puzzle.

The Challenge:

So she didn't finish the puzzle in 5 minutes.
It took her 45 minutes with breaks here and there to quell the frustration building.
I joined her the last 5 minutes or so.
She had an awesome understanding of the puzzle and what needed to be accomplished to finish it off.
In that last 5 minutes, she did it!
I have tried this puzzle and never did reach the level of understanding she had to accomplish her goal.
Awesome ~ ness !!!

Hubbie is a little tired today...

Our Parent Teacher Conference was canceled today.
Hubbie was a bit tired.
I wouldn't care to guess why...

This is what we did on Saturday:

Up and deposited Fun Girl at work first thing in the morning &
Hockey Player to the church for training.
Yard Work
Trip to the store to :
Search for special lightbulbs for the basement....gotta have light to do school
Parts to repair the stairway gate
Curtain rods for his daughter's rooms
Pick up Hockey Player, cause shopping took just that long!
Meanwhile I am taking pictures for Ebay
Running the dishwasher (mind you...we did 4 loads of dishes on Saturday... there were some left from the night before...breakfast, then we did a massive leftover feed for lunch and that alone produced enough dishes for a load)
The laundry machines are running as well.

Hung the curtain rods and curtains !  What a guy. ;)
Fixed the gate
Replaced the basement lightbulbs.  The Man enthusiastically noticed and said a glorious Thank You to his dad.
Due to a lack of rain and childish curiousity which led to unplugging the sump pump, our sump pump has not run all summer.  Not a good thing.  The water has become stagnant.  Thankfully, it was discovered before the house started to smell.  Stirring the water to flush it out, there was some odor, but the house vented really quickly.

Trip to the nursing home to see Granny.  Her birthday was Friday.  84!
Cheesecake and a song were on the agenda.

Lots of Smiles.  If we didn't reflect back on the happenings of the day or stop to look at the photos.  An hour of smiles and relationship could easily be lost in the business.

Home to work on Home School Planning and Preparations.  We managed to get through 4 kids' studies.
While Daddy O was working on all the above, I was cleaning...purging and recycling old school stuff and.........
packaging up Ebay items we have sold.
Kids worked on various chores and played games together.
Hockey Player cleaned up all his old hockey gear.  The younger brothers have found their own paths and no longer desire to follow big brother in hockey.  So it is time to sell brother's stuff.
Stomped down the recycle bin more than twice....and filled it some more.

Picked up our Fun Girl from work.
Dinner.
More work.
Showers...cause church is in the morning and we can't have smelly children. :)
Kids folded all the laundry from the weekend!
Daddy-O reserved an hour to watch the fastest men in the Olympics.
And then we crashed....

Snap Shot Memories

From last summer when we were out for a run with friends.
6 kids running with 2 moms + 2 in the jogging stroller.
Makes things interesting !
Flutter Nutter recently asked his friend if he could kiss her.
She said no.
Flutter Nutter tried again with, "I will buy you a purple house."
Then he stole a kiss.

Favorite Mental Snapshots

Cause the camera is not always nearby and sometimes if you get the camera out it ruins the moment. So you just take it all in and try to commit it to memory.
Yesterday, I had two of those moments with Hockey Player.

The first was listening to him in the back of the suburban teaching Daddy's Buddy how to tie his shoes. He was teaching him to make bunny ears...one bigger than the other....one goes through the hole...

The second was when I walked into the family room to see Flutter Nutter curled up next to him in the recliner sleeping. When I went to pick up Flutter Nutter he laid his head on Hockey Player's shoulder. Hockey Player, cause I was standing there, tried to make it look like he was just tolerating his little brother...but I think otherwise.

Hockey Player is an amazing Big Brother. God has gifted him with a very sweet and gentle spirit. As I write that, I see such contrasts...sweet, gentle spirit and Hockey... Nothing too sweet or gentle about hockey! LOL ! More like loud, rough and stinky locker rooms. All the same, he is an amazing young man and big brother!
